No more visible phone lines!

These phone lines have been removed!

We have no more phone lines visible on farm.  They have all been replaced with underground wiring.  We are ecstatic and so are our giraffes who occasionally bumped into them!

New iPad App hopes to help the Rhino

Louise Gow and her husband are developers of iPad Apps and they were in South Africa last Christmas on safari. They were very moved by the white rhino and all the problems it faces with poachers.  In fact, they were so moved that they were inspired to make an App to create awareness and raise funds.  Currently, the App is only available on iPad and is called "Rescue Rangers".  They are donating all proceeds to http://www.savetherhino.org - who are supporting them with this project. The App is going to be FREE in the Apple App store this weekend. Ads will be running and proceeds from the ads will also be going to SaveTheRhino.

The link to the app is http://bit.ly/J9WuM7. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for helping us to  to help those wonderful creatures.

Here is more information on the App:

Description

Grab your binoculars and your backpack, a great adventure waits! FabFunApps is gearing up to release its spectacular new safari app for your iPad which will take you to the heart of Africa on a quest to save the nearly extinct White Rhino! “Rescue Rangers” is a unique and creative game with a dual purpose. Not only will you get the chance to save a wide variety of colorful and amusing African creatures from dangerous and cunning poachers; you are also, playing an important part in the awareness and plight of the majestic White Rhino! The worthy organization, http://www.savetherhino.org is partnering with FabFunApps for the launch of “Rescue Rangers”.

Rescue Rangers is a playful app, brimming with colorful creatures and vibrant sound effects. The grasslands of Africa come to life in this amusing app which features many indigenous creatures that we all know and love. At the heart of the game is the lumbering White Rhino which needs to be saved from the sly and skillful poachers. Along the way, you will encounter many other wild and dangerous creatures, such as the beautiful and speedy cheetah, the curious and cheerful monkey, the massive water buffalo, the graceful and wondrous giraffe, the gentle giant elephant, and the king of the jungle himself; the regal lion!

As the comical and notorious poachers silently stalk their prey, it is your job to save the animals from a cruel fate! Test your skills on one of three challenging modes; easy, normal, or expert. Save the animals on your own or with a friend in the single or multi-player modes. Either way, this safari adventure will provide hours of entertainment!

The game developers did a wonderful job in their interpretation and design of the poachers, the creatures, and the habitat which they inhabit. The cartoon version of the huts and dwellings is accurate and the dusty, golden hues of the African planes are captured with animated brilliance! Each wild creature has been lovingly sculpted and painted with precision and their voices ring out with whimsical sound effects to bring this game to life. The many unique animations and upbeat soundtrack really immerse you into this safari adventure!

This fun and exciting game was created from pure inspiration by the app designers who took a trip to Africa and witnessed the majestic wonders of the planes and the White Rhinos, themselves! They were able to meet with a wonderful team of rangers who are committed to saving the Rhinos. This game is dedicated to them and their plight to save the wondrous creatures!

10 Baby Ostriches born

This weekend, we saw 10 new baby ostriches born.  8 Have survived and are doing really well.

A female ostrich can lay twenty-five to fifty eggs in a season, from March until September.    When the chicks are born they are only ten inches tall and weigh just two pounds.  A baby ostrich will grow ten to twelve inches every month for the first six months of its life. Soon it will tower way above humans!

Reflections of the sky

This stunning photo was taken from The Baroness Boma and was such an amazing photo as the sky was mirrored in the dam next to the lodge.  Hilary the hippo is now living in this dam.  She seems to find it more peaceful here as her family is quite large.  She is the older sister of the Wonderful "Wet Clan" who all live in the Main Dam and travel around a lot at night.  Hilary is very calm and loves to sit and wallow quietly in the dam and watch guests having their diner in the Boma.
